Applications directly to UNSW
Applications via the Apply Online portal may take up to 5 business days to process, provided all documentation is received. If additional documentation is required, there will be delays in receiving an outcome.
If your application is still within this timeframe, we won't be able to provide an update, but rest assured we are working to process all applications as quickly as possible.
Applications via UAC
Domestic undergraduate applications for Term 2 2021, Term 3 2021 and Term 1 2022 will open in April via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
International undergraduate UAC applications will also open in April.
Postgraduate UAC offers for Term 2 are released on a rolling basis. The assessment of preferences for Fee-paying places can take up to three weeks to process. The assessment of preferences for CSP can take longer as this is assigned on academic merit basis and the places are limited in each program. Term 2 offers are released from mid-February. Applications for the Term 3 intake will be assessed from May onwards.
Applications for Master of Teaching will open in May 2021 via the Apply Online Portal and will close mid-August 2021. Applications will then be available via UAC in late September.
You are assessed on your selection rank (ATAR plus adjustment factors) rather than your raw ATAR for admission to UNSW. Lowest ATAR means the lowest raw ATAR (not including adjustment factors) a student had who was admitted to the degree that year. Lowest Selection Rank means the lowest rank (ATAR plus adjustment factors) that was admitted to the degree that year.
The Lowest Selection Rank is a good indication of the results required to be competitive for an offer.
At this stage, UNSW is unable to provide application fee waivers to prospective students. Once you have paid the AU$125 application fee, UNSW will be able to assess your application for admission.
UNSW offers to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students via our UNSW Scholarships website. Each scholarship has differing eligibility criteria and you know your personal circumstances best so I do encourage you to have an explore through.
You will need to apply for your preferred degree first through the Apply Online portal. The Admissions Office will send you a Student ID number that you may use to apply for scholarships. You can find information regarding registering your Scholarships account here. For further advice on Scholarships please contact our dedicated Scholarships team at scholarships@unsw.edu.au.
UNSW has no formal pre-requisite subjects for any degree. Instead, we have Assumed Knowledge which is the level of understanding we suggest you have in order to be comfortable commencing your chosen degree. You may find your first year a little more challenging than other students who have studied at this level.
If you have not studied the Assumed Knowledge subjects, you will still be made an offer to study with us, provided you are eligible (meet the ATAR or equivalent).
Bridging courses are available at UNSW and other institutions that can help prepare you if you didn’t study the subject at high school. These courses are entirely voluntary and further information regarding the schedule for 2021 can be found here.
Domestic and international students applying to transfer to UNSW will be assessed depending on how much tertiary study they have completed. Please note that we will only use your high school results if we accept your qualification, and if this qualification was achieved more than five years ago, assessment will be based solely on your university results.
- If you have studied at least one year full-time in one degree, (studying at least 0.75 of a full-time study load - which is at least 36 Units of Credit (UOC)) - you will be assessed either on your high school results or overall university results, whichever is the higher.
- If you have studied less than 0.75 of a full-time year - less than 36 UOC - your assessment reverts to your high school results.
Please note that for entry into our Medicine, Combined Law programs and the Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Clinical Optometry you will be assessed differently. You can refer to the Future Students website for more information. To access the information please select: Non-Recent School Leaver; I have Higher Education Studies, and then select from the drop down that best suits your circumstance.
